What is One Off Places?

One Off Places is a website which advertises holiday properties around the world.  People can search the site for the property of their choice, and then contact the owner directly in order to make a booking.  Booking directly with the owner allows you to book each component of your holiday separately, as well as ensuring that you don’t have to pay agent fees.

Can I book my holiday with One Off Places?
No.  Once you have found the property you are interested in, you will be asked to complete an enquiry form.  This enquiry form is sent directly to the owner of your chosen property and you will communicate entirely with the owners when making your booking.  One Off Places does not get involved in the booking process at all – we are just here to provide you with the initial contact.

How do I use the One Off Places website?
We hope that you will find the One Off Places website very user friendly and that you won’t have any problems finding what you are looking for.  From the homepage you can search by location, availability and price, as well as being able to view certain featured properties.  From the homepage you can also go into a more advanced search, where you can search by type of property, facilities, price, availability, region etc.  Please do let us know if there’s anything we can do to make your searching easier.

How can I save the details of more than one place to go back to later?
Once you are in the search areas of the website you will notice an 'add to favourites' button on each page.  All you need to do is click on this button when you find a property which you are particularly interested in.  You will then be able to go back to this property any time you like by choosing it from your favourites.

How can I email the details of my favourite places to someone else?
Once you are in the search areas of the website you will notice a ‘send to a friend’ button.  All you need to do is click on the ‘send to a friend’ button when you find a property you want to send on – you will be asked to enter your friend’s details, as well as any message you want to write, and then click ‘submit’.  Your message will automatically be sent.

How do I find out more information about the property I’m interested in?
Once on the search results page, you can click on each ‘thumbnail’ to go through to the long description of your chosen property.  If you have further questions which aren’t answered by the more detailed property information page then please click on ‘enquire’ where you will be able to complete an enquiry form, which has a space for specific questions.

How do I get there?
Each property description has a travel information box which tells you where the nearest airport etc is.  The owners of the property are also always very happy to help with directions.  Do refer to the ‘Travel Resources’ section on the One Off Places website where you will be able to see further details on various travel resource providers.

How do I know if the property is available?
Most advertisers use the availability calendar which shown on each property description.  This calendar will show you whether a property is available or not.  If you are unsure, the please enquire directly with the property owner who will be happy to help.

How do I book?
Booking is directly with the owners – once you have completed an enquiry form they will email you and you can process your booking directly with them, without needing to involve One Off Places.

Who do I pay?
As above, you pay the owner directly.  There is no commission paid to One Off Places – you simply deal directly with the owner of your property.  In general the owner of the property will email you a statement listing the amount due and the dates you have booked in order to confirm your booking.

I have emailed the owner but haven’t had a reply
We ask all the property owners on the One Off Places site to try their hardest to reply to all email enquiries within 3-4 days of receipt.  If you haven’t received a reply after this time, please check your spam filters first – often an unknown email address will get sent straight to your spam box.  If you still don’t hear from them after sending a reminder email, please email support@oneoffplaces.co.uk and give us the details of the property / owner you are trying to contact.  We will see if we can contact them on your behalf and find out why they haven’t got back to you.

How do I know that the property is genuine?
One Off Places staff will have already done some checking on each property before it is listed on the website.  However, we have not visited every property (sadly!) so we can not always vouch for them.  Having said that, each owner has to pay a fee to list their property on the One Off Places website, so it is unlikely that they will not be genuine.  Each property should have some testimonials on the site which you can refer to.

If you are unsure, speak to the owner by phone so you can get a feel for the individual.  You can always ask for testimonials and references- or perhaps ask to be put in touch with somebody who stayed at the property previously.    Also, always ask for a booking contract setting out the full conditions of the rental, payment and cancellation terms etc.  Also make sure that you use a secure payment method to transfer the funds.

If you feel that the property is not being advertised properly or that owners are not behaving in the way they should with potential holiday makers then please let us know.  We do not want cowboys advertising on our website!

What are the cancellation conditions?
Each owner will have their own cancellation conditions.  We recommend that you always check what these conditions are before entering into a contract on any property.  One off Places does not have anything to do with the cancellation conditions of individual properties.

Where do I pick up the key and how do I get the directions to the property?
All information about how to pick up the key and get to the property will be provided to you directly by the property owner in advance of your arrival.  Please make sure you have all of this information before you set off!  One off Places does not give out directions to individual properties.

How can I give you feedback about the property we booked through One Off Places?
We are keen to see feedback and find out about your holiday experience so that we can get a better feel for the properties on our site.  Please email us on feedback@oneoffplaces.co.uk with your feedback, good or bad!

I’ve got some issues with the property – who do I contact?
If you get to your property and discover a problem, please contact the owners directly.  One Off Places will not be able to help you as we are not involved in the booking process so you will need to ensure that you have the contact details of the owners with you before you leave!
